The city was in ruins. The dead and dying littered the ground. Their scorched and burned carcasses lay scattered amidst the rubble. Fire and thunderbolts continued to rain from the sky to finish off everyone who was left. Everyone who opposed the monstrosity responsible for all of this death and horror. The ground split itself open into a yawning chasm causing others to fall into the depths of the Earth. Swirling roaring tornadoes made of flames rose up and blew across the city devastating everything in their path. It was chaos, it was horror, it was a nightmare, it was the Apocalypse, it was Armageddon and one young girl was running through the fire and flames just trying to survive. She ran towards a building hoping and praying she could duck inside and hide until an energy blast struck it and obliterated the building entirely! She jumped back and ducked and covered as the flaming rubble fell down around her but fortunately not on top of her. She scrambled to her feet and continued running and running and running in a desperate panic as the ground split open behind her until she suddenly jumped to the side and landed on a car, scrambled on top of it and ran across the car until she jumped off of it and ran down an alleyway. Spires of Earth erupted out of the ground and tore apart the buildings on either side of her sending rubble and debris crashing down around her. She could only scream and run forward until she fell out of the alleyway and onto a main street again. There was nowhere to go. The city was burning down. The world was ending. She was trapped. She couldn't escape! She looked up at the sky and finally she saw it. The Devil responsible for this entire disaster. It was far away, far up in the sky but with a female's body and demonic horns and massive hellish wings that were FAR too big for its breathe. A flaming halo floated behind her and the fire and lightning rained down from her hands down upon the city and it was through those flashes of light that she finally saw it clearly. She saw the true face of the Devil responsible for this horror. She was older, more developed with red and black lightning crackling around her but she understood who she was the moment she saw. It was her.
She was The Devil. "Noooooo....nooooo.....NO! NO! NO! NO NO! NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOO! PLEEEAAASSE! SOMEONE! ANYONE! STOOOP MEEEEEEEE!" She screamed to the sky as her Devil-Self raised her hands and prepared to obliterate the city. A sonic boom echoed through the sky and she lowered her arms and looked forward. The girl looked up in the direction of the new arrival and she just barely caught a glimpse of a tall powerfully built man with a cape flowing behind him rocketing across the city to face the Devil in battle. The moment they made contact an explosion of force erupted from the point of impact and tore apart the city. As the girl was blown away with everything else a single name echoed through her mind and out of her lips. A name that she didn't remember hearing but she spoke anyway. A name she spoke with Hope in her heart. The name of the young man who would save her and the world. Her savior. "David."
Penelope Stone's eyes snapped open and she bolted upright in her bed and threw off the covers. She practically fell out of her bed but she managed to catch herself on the wall and then ran across it, grabbed the bathroom door, opened it and fell against the sink where she desperately began taking her short ragged breaths. Trembling in fear she turned on the lights and sat down on the ground hugging herself and burying her head in her knees. "Huuuuuuhhhh......huuuuuhhhh.....huuuuuuhhhh....huuuuuhhhh....hoooooo.....huuuuuhhh.....hoooooo.....huuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhh.....hooooooo....i-it's...o-okay...it's...it's okay. It's okay. it's okay. It was just a dream. Just a dream. That's...th-that's...that's all it was. Just a stupid bad dream. Not real. Just a bad dream." She repeated this to herself as she reached up with one trembling hand and then the other and pulled herself up to her feet. She sat down on the toilet and rubbed her eyes. "Just a bad dream. That's all it was. Just a stupid nightmare. I'm not like him. I'm not like my father. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm NOT!" Penelope slapped her face a few times. "It's fine now. I'm fine. It's okay. I'm not like my father and I never will be. I'm fine. I'm fine. It's all okay now." She blew out her breath and sat up straight. "It was just a nightmare. That's all. But still...how did I know his name then? David?"

But still...how did I know his name then? David?" "Furthermore....why am I having such a weird dream now of all times? I've always been worried about the truth of my past getting out but....this was beyond the pale. Was it a Vision Of The Future? NO. Nononononoooo....thaaaat can't be it. Lets nix that right now. That can't be it. Maybe....maybe it's anxiety. My powers have started waking up and I'm just scared and anxious from it. That's all....how the hell I know David's name is beyond me though. Have I met a David? I mean....it's a fairly common name but this...this felt weird. More like someone I know personally....how weird." She sighed. "Thank GOD it's the Weekend. I do not have the energy for a school day after all that." She joked. Penelope took a minute to calm down and then she returned to her bed and flopped down on it. "My power....it isn't like His was. It's different....he stole powers....but I...I can steal aspects. Steal and store. Discard and draw. I can store one aspect of something and hold it in myself. But if I want to use another thing...then I need to let go of what I took and it'll return to the thing I originally took it from." She monologued. "But...how does a weird dream like that factor into it? I get Dad had a lot of powers, way too many for one psychopath to handle, so could it be that I inherited more than one power? Ahhhhh to heck with it. No way to tell right now. Darn jerkface of an old man. Couldn't you have left me an instruction booklet before Paragon sent you back to where you belong?" She stood up and walked to her dresser and grabbed a squishy stress ball and a tennis ball and she began tossing them up and down and up and down before she caught them both and focused her power. She absorbed the squishy malleability of the stress ball right out of it, let it pass into and through her body, and then transferred it into the tennis ball and she began squeezing it like a stress ball! It was no longer a solid tennis ball for sports. Now it was as squishy and squeezable as any stress ball while the stress ball was left rigid but fragile now. Penelope took a breather and squished the tennis ball for a while to chill out and calm her thoughts until she heard her adoptive mom knock on the door. "Penny, honey? Is everything okay? I heard noises. Is everything alright in there? Do I have to break out the Mom-Fu on anybody?" Penelope laughed. "Pfffft! Okay, I needed that today. Come on in mom. I just had a bad dream that's all." "Is everything okay down there?!" Her adoptive father called down the hallway. "Do I need to break out the swords? Pretty please?" "False alarm, honey! Go back to sleep!" Sonya Stone called back and walked into Penelope's room and sat down with her. "Oooh whatcha got there? A stress ball?" "Kinda. I transferred the malleability of the stress ball into the tennis ball to calm myself down." Penelope and Miss Sonya Stone!

She handed the former squish ball back to her mom who tried to squeeze it but it just felt like a normal ball while Penelope squeezed the tennis ball. "I can relieve the stress of my nightmare and practice my powers at the same time!" "Clever girl. But whatever was your nightmare about?" "Ohhh....ummmm....okay, look, it was...it was just a dumb dream...about the end of the world. There was some big insane crazy evil villain causing destruction and some superhero guy showed up and they started fighting and everything went boom." It wasn't a complete lie. That was basically her bad dream. She just left out the part about the Villain attacking being...Her. "Wow. That sounds intense. Okay. Listen I'm sure it was nothing. It was just a bad dream, honey, you're safe here, you're safe, you're fine, you're alright." Sonya assured her gently. "Although, if I were to hazard a guess, I'd blame it on that GuardianEagle Movie you snuck into with your friends." Penelope dropped the ball. "...You know about that?" "Oh honey. I'm your mommy. Of course I know you silly-billy!" She laughed and ruffled her hair. "Ahhhh! Moooom!" She raised her hand up and let go. "Relax. I did the same thing on my first date with your father. The Slicer And Dicer Killer. Cheesy name but the movie was great if rather intense." "Heh. Well, you know, that was probably it. That movie was more than a little intense." "And it gave you a ngihtmare. You need to be sure you're ready for a movie like that before you go into it and of course don't go sneaking into movies. You could get into real trouble for that, honey." "I know...it was a good time though." "Well I'm glad. I'll let it slide this time but if you do it again you're going to be grounded." "Yes mom." "That's great. I love you honey." She leaned in and kissed her head. "Now don't you worry about anything, alright? You're safe here. You've got me, you're father annnd..." She stood up and walked over to a shelf which had a figurine of Serenity which Penelope kept in a glass case. "The World's Greatest Superhero watching out for you. So don't worry about a thing, alright? It was just a dream." "Yeah, you're right, thanks mom. Goodnight." "Get some sleep kiddo." She walked out and closed the door. Penelope waited until she was gone and then she stepped out of her bed and walked up to the shelf and looked at the figurine of Serenity that stared back to her with its painted on smile. After a long stare down between them she placed her hands on the case and then she gently placed her forehead against it. She didn't know what to say. It was just a figurine of The World's Greatest Superhero Who Died In Combat Fighting Off The World's Greatest Villain, Penelope's Own Father, but she still could never think of what to say to her. So once again she went back to her Default: "Thank you...for stopping Him."

I like the nice little contrast between a nice mother-daughter moment with the two compared to a heartwarming sibling moment between Eve and David. I also like that it showcases that Penny is flawed but still has a likable personality. It could be worse Penny. At least she didn't see the Werewolf Movie, The Terror At Camp Shadow Woods. Let's just say that the film made people avoid camping altogether

I also like that it showcases that Penny is flawed but still has a likable personality. It could be worse Penny. At least she didn't see the Werewolf Movie, The Terror At Camp Shadow Woods. Let's just say that the film made people avoid camping altogether Funnily enough, Penelope and her friends were one coin flip away from seeing Shadow Woods! Heads: GuardianEagle. Tails: Shadow Woods. Penelope won the coin toss and they've decided to watch Shadow Woods when it comes out at VIDBox (The RedBox Equivalent) and make it a Movie Night. Surely that will end in Sweet Dreams, right? Glad you like the new version of Penny and her adoptive mom so far! Yeah, she's flawed but on the lighter side of things and she'll grow into a more heroic role as the story develops!
