Izumi Quan Sun Age: 18 "You were declared clinically dead, yet you've fought your way back, you've come back to this. Why?" In that desolate realm between life and death, where the boundaries of reality frayed and mingled, Izumi Quan Sun found herself in the company of an otherworldly being, the enigmatic Shoug Zhen. The creature's form, an unsettling amalgamation of spider and skeletal limbs, loomed over her, its presence casting a chilling shadow upon her fractured senses. The Spider Reaper watched her, its many eyes gleaming with an intelligence far beyond mortal comprehension. Blinking away the haze of her awakening, Izumi trembled, her eyes fixated on the Spider Reaper before her. The crimson sky arched overhead, a foreboding tapestry stretched across the boundless expanse. Jagged rocks, sharp as shards of forgotten memories, spread out in all directions, their unforgiving edges a stark reminder of the realm's inhospitable nature. "Wakey wakey," a low, guttural voice, like nails grinding against ancient stone, emanated from Shoug Zhen. The words, whispered with a haunting cadence, echoed through the air, reaching deep into Izumi's fragile consciousness. It was a being whispered about in hushed tones, spoken of in tales spun by her older sister, who had once spoken of the astral realm with a reverence that both fascinated and terrified Izumi. Startled, Izumi instinctively scooted away from the creature, her heart racing in her chest like a captured bird seeking escape. As her senses regained clarity, she surveyed her surroundings, seeking solace in the familiarity of her new reality. But even in this strange limbo, fragments of memory lingered—a bridge, a hail of bullets, a valiant but futile struggle against the encroaching darkness. These visions, seared into her soul, mingled with the intense anguish of her fall, the very instant her existence was severed from the mortal plane. "Shoug Zhen," she whispered, the name slipping from her lips in a tremor of recognition. Her voice, no longer her own, carried the weight of something indefinable, as if it bore the echoes of forgotten tongues. Shocked by the transformation that had befallen her speech, she swiftly covered her mouth, her eyes widening in awe and trepidation. A flicker of amusement glinted in the Spider Reaper's eyes, its skeletal hands intertwining with a grace that defied its nightmarish appearance. "You catch on quickly, Young One," Shoug Zhen responded, its voice now smoothed by an ethereal resonance that resonated within Izumi's very core. "I hope you don't mind the minor adjustment I made, a linguistic alteration to facilitate our discourse in this twilight realm." Izumi's thoughts whirled in a tumult of questions, cascading like shards of broken mirror reflecting fragmented truths. She mustered her courage and dared to pose the most pressing inquiry that consumed her: "Am I dead, Shoug Zhen? Is this what lies beyond the mortal coil?" The Spider Reaper's arachnid form trembled, the soft susurrus of unseen whispers emanating from its depths. Its eight eyes regarded her with a mix of sorrow and empathy, as if it were privy to secrets untold. "Death is not a destination, young one," it replied, its voice laced with ancient wisdom. "This realm, this ethereal juncture, is a mere pause in the grand tapestry of existence. What awaits you beyond, that remains to be seen." A shiver coursed through Izumi's form, her senses enveloped by the weight of uncertainty. She could feel the tendrils of fate coiling around her, an invisible force pulling her towards an uncertain future.

Izumi Quan Sun Age: 18 "You were declared clinically dead, yet you've fought your way back, you've come back to this. Why?" There was no life flashing before her eyes, no bright light at the end of a tunnel, for Izumi Quan Sun her brush with Death happened in an instant, She recalled her tormentors mercilessly gunning her down, the desperate pleas of a young soldier trying in vain to save her, then the piercing scream she let out when she fell from the bridge, then complete and utter darkness the moment she felt the ground beneath her. She wasn't sure how long she was out, but she can feel a hand brushing against her cheek. She recoiled and whimpered as she jolted awake, the first thing she saw was a Spider, that was waaay too large for your average arachnid. That wasn't the only thing she noticed about the being before her. It had the body of a spider but its limbs consisted of long skeletal arms and hands beneath them. "Wakey wakey" It's the low guttural voice that sounded like ground nails greeted her. A scared Izumi scoots away from the creature, the moment she came to her senses she observed her surroundings, she took note of the crimson sky above and the multitude of jagged rocks beneath her and her otherworldly companion. Once Izumi is calm enough she recognized the creature from the stories her older sister would tell her. A being from the astral realm who'd visit those on the verge of life and death. "Shoug Zhen" Izumi spoke, she instantly covered her mouth, realizing she was no longer speaking in her native language. "You've caught on very quick, Young One. Hope you don't mind that I've made a slight alteration so that our communication will go a little more smoothly" Shoug Zhen, The Spider Reaper commented. Sorry for the wait! I'm back! And DAMN! This escalated right off the bat! Right from her tragic end at the hands of human monsters to being face to face with an Eldritch Horror! While I'm guessing that her meeting with this being will explain how she was able to come back to the world of the living there would definitely be a serious price for doing so and dealing with that will likely comprise Izumi's initial overall arc in the story. Looking forward to seeing this being explored!

Really playing up the cosmic horror aspects of the entity up in here! The aspect of being in a world between life and death is also fascinating and the spider likely has a larger goal and reason for bringing her here so it should be interesting to see what develops from this meeting. I wonder if Dracula knows him? Also, out of curiosity, is Shoug Zhen based on any mythological entity?

Partially. He's based on the spider from the game Asura's Wrath.

Trigger Warning: Implied reference to a past sexual assault.
Izumi found herself adrift in a haze, unsure of how much time had passed before she regained a semblance of calm and a clearer perception of her surroundings. Questions buzzed in her mind like a persistent swarm, yet one, in particular, captured her focus: "Why?"
The answer, it seemed, lay before her, embodied in a figure that exuded a peculiar mix of wisdom and nightmarish enigma. "The answer to that, my young one, should be apparent, shouldn't it?" The voice, resonating with a depth that defied its speaker's physical form, echoed through the air. "What I offer you is not merely a choice, but a golden opportunity—a chance to reclaim what is rightfully yours. I must warn you, however, that this offer is not without its trials. You shall have to summon every ounce of willpower and strength within you to earn your way back into the realm of the living. Particularly after those vile creatures stripped you of your innocence and cast you down into this wretched place," the Spider-Reaper proclaimed, its words hanging heavy in the air. "All that is required is a single nod from your pure mind, and a resolute 'yes.'"
Izumi's mind drifted back to that fateful night when she was, crying out for her mother while being forced apart from her family, subjected to unspeakable horrors at the hands of those monstrous beings. The memories, like haunting specters, flooded her consciousness, bringing forth tears that trickled down her cheeks. She brushed them away, gathering herself once more.
Could this offer be the answer to the countless prayers she had whispered into the void during her captivity? That desolate sadness morphed into a wave of fierce anger—defiance not to let them steal her life, even if they had stolen her body. She raised her gaze to meet the piercing eyes of the Spider-Reaper and nodded, her resolve unwavering.
"Excellent, young one. Then allow me to lead you to the first stage of your Trial," the Spider-Reaper replied, a mixture of satisfaction and anticipation coloring its voice.

Man oh man Izumi just needs a hug after going through all that horror. Nobody deserves that but Izumi is still on the track to coming back to life and getting her revenge once she passes the Life Trials. It won't come free, Izumi has a long road of harsh trials ahead of her, but she will pass them and come out the other side stronger than ever before!
