Note: This takes place sometime before the first story of Shepard Mysteries. I want to showcase Cody in action while providing a way to tease just what kind of adventures lurk for David in the main story. Plus there's nothing like a good ole fashioned buddy cop scenario.
Cody King
I stepped into the Paragon Agency, feeling a rush of pride wash over me. This was my place, a place, unlike anything anyone had ever seen before. The walls were made of gleaming metal and adorned with colorful murals depicting some of the most incredible battles I had ever laid eyes on. The floor was made of white marble and sparkled in the light of the overhead chandeliers. The whole place had an energy to it that was palpable like the walls themselves were pulsing with excitement.
I glanced around, taking in the details of the room. The walls were adorned with weapons, both ancient and modern, each one displayed as if it were a work of art. I couldn't help but admire the skill and craftsmanship that went into making each one. I was the owner of this place, and it was a source of pride for me.
Alex Morningstar was already in the room, going through the monster dossier. She looked up as I walked in and gave me a nod. "Hey Cody," she said, a smirk playing at the corner of her mouth.
I grinned back. "Hey Alex. What's the situation?"
"Just trying to figure out what we're dealing with today," she said, flipping through the pages of the dossier. "It's always a little bit of a wild card when it comes to the monsters."
I walked over to the table and looked down at the dossier. "Yeah, but it's always more exciting than sitting in an office, right?" I said, trying to lighten the mood.
Alex snorted. "I'll take chasing down monsters over paperwork any day of the week."
We both fell silent for a moment as we studied the pages in front of us. "Have you ever noticed," I said, "how the monsters in the movies are never quite as frightening as the ones we face in real life?"
"That's because the movies make everything look so glamorous," Alex said, shaking her head. "They don't show you the real mess that comes with taking down a monster. The blood, the gore, not that fancy CGI or Practical gore either, and the endless cleanup."
I took a deep breath, I remember my first real one. A dragon attack in South Valiya. The mere sight of Tiamat's carnage was enough to make me throw up.
"Yeah, but still," I said regaining. "There's something to be said for the adrenaline rush of a good old-fashioned monster chase."
"Definitely," Alex agreed. "But let's just hope that whatever we're facing today is more of a thrilling chase and less of a... well, you know."
We both knew that the reality of monster hunting was far from glamorous. It was dirty, dangerous work. But it was also the most exciting job either of us had ever had. The thrill of the chase, the rush of adrenaline, it was all worth it.
"So, what do we got?" I asked, eager to get to work.
Alex flipped through the pages of the dossier, scanning the details of our next target. "Looks like we've got a creature in the sewers," she said, a hint of excitement in her voice. "It's been causing problems for the local residents."
I nodded, already feeling the adrenaline pumping through my veins. "Sounds like just another day at the office."
We set off, ready to face whatever the day had in store for us. The Paragon Agency was a place like no other, and I was proud to be at the helm. No matter what challenges lay ahead, I knew that together, Alex and I could handle anything.
Note: More to come soon.
