David King sat cross-legged on the rooftop of his family's two-story house, his eyes fixed on the stars in the sky. He always felt a sense of peace up here, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The only sounds he could hear were the soft rustle of leaves and the occasional hoot of an owl. As he gazed up at the twinkling lights, he couldn't help but wonder about the mysteries of the universe.
It wasn't long before he heard footsteps behind him, and he knew who it was without having to turn around. "Hey, little sis," he greeted Eve with a smile as she joined him on the roof. Eve is around a couple of years younger when compared to David but David always credits her in being a little more mature for her age. While they may not be considered siblings biologically they see each other as such regardless.
"Hey," Eve said, settling down next to him. "I was wondering when you'd come up here."
David chuckled. "You know me too well."
They sat in silence for a moment, just taking in the peaceful surroundings. This was usually the spot where David would be whenever he'd need a place of solace and think about things. And every now and then Eve would join him, either just looking up at the stars or lost in their respective thoughts. Finally, David spoke up. "Do you ever wonder about your purpose in life?"
Eve shrugged. "I guess. But I'm still figuring things out."
David nodded. "Yeah, me too. But I know one thing for sure: I want to be a hero."
Eve raised an eyebrow. "A hero?"
David grinned. "Yeah. Like Mom."
Eve nods, it had been something that David had always wanted. Especially since when they were little. She'd notice the way David would look at one of Cody's older pictures, back when she was an active hero, in awe and often wished it was him fighting side by side. In a way she envied him. To this day she still is unsure what her path is, sure she'd join her bro in fighting monsters but there are times she'd wonder if she has the same heroic drive as her mother and her brother?
Eve looked thoughtful. "I don't know if I want to be a hero. But I want to do something important. Something that matters."
David nodded in agreement. "I know what you mean. I want to make a difference in the world, you know? Even if it's just a small one."
Eve smiled. "I think you already have. You're a great brother."
David laughed. "Thanks. You're not so bad yourself."
They lapsed into silence again, content to just sit and enjoy each other's company. David couldn't help but feel grateful for this moment, for his sister, and for the stars above.
Suddenly, a gust of wind picked up, and David's hat flew off his head. Without thinking, he lunged after it, his hand just barely catching the brim before it could sail off the roof. He let out a sigh of relief and put the hat back on his head.
Eve looked at him with a mixture of amusement and concern. "You're such a daredevil."
David grinned. "What can I say? I like to live dangerously."
Eve rolled her eyes but couldn't help smiling. "Well, just be careful, okay? I know you have your powers but I'd like to see you in one peace before you achieve your goal. Just promise me one thing"
"What's that?"
"For the love of God don't wear tights. It's corny"
"IDK about that, I think I'd look pretty good in tights" David teased which earns him a playful punch in the arm
They fell into a comfortable silence again, watching as the stars slowly shifted in the sky. David couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the vastness of the universe, at the endless possibilities that lay ahead.
He turned to Eve. "You know, sometimes I feel like we're just small, insignificant specks in the grand scheme of things. But then I remember that even the smallest speck can make a difference."
Eve nodded. "Yeah. We may not be able to change the world on our own, but we can still make a difference in our own little corner of it."
David smiled. "Exactly. And who knows? Maybe one day we'll be able to make a difference on a larger scale."
Eve leaned her head on his shoulder. "I hope so. But for now, I'm just happy to be here with you."
David put his arm around her. "Me too, sis.
